Fingers crossed on the BUILD Plan! Abundant Housing Illinois will be conducting a day of action on 4/15 to meet with legislators to ensure this passes.
Good info. Missing middle housing production is woefully below pre 2008 levels, and a lot of that driven by financing. After the GFC, there were many changes to GSE financing requirements that effectively killed this type of development. Some of those are unwinding but it remains the biggest hurdle. We created more than 2x the 2-4 unit housing units in 2006 than we do today. Most zoning reforms in the past few years are helpful, but only a part of the story.
People who want this to become law can show their support by sending a letter to their state rep and senator

There is also a lobby day on April 15. Ride the Amtrak to Springfield with 50 other YIMBYs and talk to state electeds about the BUILD plan

This is great. The more states that do housing reform, the better.
